Shavasana Sh$tStorm Series: Part 2
Author: Susie Nelson | Owner of The Cycling Yogi
Welcome to episode two of Savasana Sht Storm*—because apparently, I’m a “wellness professional” who somehow forgot how to chill.
For anyone new here, Savasana Sht Storm: Mindful Movement and Mindless Thoughts* is my ongoing series where I share the random things that pop into my head during yoga—stuff I probably shouldn’t be obsessing over, but do anyway. Like planning what I’ll eat after class, silently judging my own shoulder tightness, and wondering if lying still in savasana technically counts as “workout productivity.”
Today’s topic? Preparation paralysis.
You know that moment when you read something and think, “OMG, that’s totally me!” Yeah, that was me this morning. It felt like the universe was calling me out.
Of course, this revelation hit right before class, which meant I spent the entire hour having a full-blown existential crisis mid-flow—reviewing everything wrong with me, replaying questionable life choices, and mentally drafting a plan for “a better version” of myself. Super zen, I know.
Here’s why it matters: since starting this series, I’ve spent more time thinking about doing it than actually doing it. I’ve written notes, half-drafted posts, even told Chloé, “You’ll have these Monday.” (For the record, Monday is still TBD.)
The truth is, I get stuck in the “make it perfect” loop. I want the timing, the tone, the post—all of it—to be just right before I send it out. Meanwhile, three weeks have passed since my intro post, and I’m sitting outside the yoga studio making excuses about why it’s not ready yet.
It’s more than procrastination—it’s a pattern. A bad habit. The illusion of productivity when I’m really just avoiding the doing part. Because checking boxes on my color-coded list doesn’t actually move me forward.
So here’s my breakthrough:
Today, I’m just doing it.
I’m writing this and I’m hitting send. No overthinking. No tweaking. Just… done.
Because honestly, the longer you wait for perfect, the more excuses you make to stay stuck.
Moral of the story?
Sometimes you have to stop over-preparing and start doing. Progress doesn’t come from perfect plans—it comes from imperfect action.
That’s my Savasana Sht Storm* for today.
If there’s something you’ve been overthinking or avoiding, take one tiny step toward it today. Progress, no matter how small, beats sitting still in paralysis.
You can’t argue with Walt Disney:
“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”
So, what’s one small thing you can do today to move forward?
Drop it in the comments—I’d love to hear. 💛
